So much fun!?

This is a real photo postcard from the Benedicta Trunk photo album. A real photo postcard is one that used the standard photographic development process in a darkroom to print the postcard images. This particular one is an AZO postcard, which means it was printed on Kodak Professional AZO paper. The stamp box (where the stamp would go on the other side) can help us date the postcard. This one has four triangles (one in each corner) all pointing up, which was the type of stamp box used between 1904-1918.

I can’t help but notice the irony of this couple’s facial expressions against the photo prop. Bad date?

*Giggles* That gentlemen doesn’t look like he is having even a little barrel’s worth of fun.

I wonder about the setting – I found another similar backdrop on the Internet…

Paul Waldner of a Hoston based “personal injury claims” law firm:

I’ve found “fun houses” all over the United States that had “Barrel of Fun” rides – do the other pictures in the “Benedicta Trunk” album give you some idea of a location? Coney Island in New York had one – and several of them were on the west coast – I think it odd that the couple is so well dressed for a day at the amusement park – but folks did dress nice back then.

Iggy, the Trunk family was mainly from Youngstown, OH. My guess was this was as some sort of carnival or amusement park. Seriously, they don’t even look like they are having a bucket’s worth of fun! :-)
