Everetts, New York State

This person was identified only as Everetts, New York State, with the photo below labeled only as “& wife.”

Her dress is a bustle dress, dating the photo to 1885-1890. It is not an outrageous dress, very understated. She has some type of flower at her throat, so this could possibly be her wedding portrait.

This young man was also labeled only Everetts, New York State. My guess is the person making the identifications intended to go back and write in their first names but never did for one reason or another. This particular photo looks like a collodion print with its slight lavender tint, putting the date post 1894.

The three photographers were (possibly) M. S. Squyer of Auburn, NY, Pomeroy of Rochester, NY and Ernsberger in Auburn, NY.

The boy looks like he could be the same as the one pictured in your post of “16 Jul 2011, He’s a cute boy, for sure” which was taken by Squyer. If he isn’t, I’d swear he is his brother!

This Mrs. Everett doesn’t look all that much like the Mrs. Everest you posted on “28 Jul 2011, Mrs. Everest of New York State” but she could be… That photo seems to be about 10-15 years older (and the subject looks at least that much older)?

I think it’s time I followed up on this:

“Lavina Van Sickle, born Kingwood Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ November 2, 1820. She married twice. She married John R. Powers January 4, 1843. John was born about 1820. She married James Everitt May 18, 1853.”

United States Census, 1880 for Lavina Everitt (nee Van Sickle?)
    Residence: Springport, Cayuga, New York
    Birthdate: 1820
    Birthplace: New Jersey, United States
Father’s Birthplace: New Jersey, United States
Mother’s Birthplace: New Jersey, United States
    Martial Status: Widowed
    Age (Expanded): 59 years
    Occupation: Housekeeping
    Household Gender Age
    Lavina Everitt F 59
    Children:
John (listed as James in 1860) Everitt 23 (1857)
    Sarah C Everitt 21 (1859) (School-teacher in 1892)
    William Everitt 17 (1863) (Merchant in 1892)
    Francis Everitt 15 (1865)

Lavina Van Sickle married James Everitt/Everett on May, 18, 1853. The children’s birthdate are agreeable.

Springport is ten miles SW of Auburn, NY. All of these “children” were still living at home in 1892 (NY census).

Husband James Evertts is listed in the 1860 census which states he was born in 1812.

If this is the right family – the boy in the last photo would be 31 at your photo dating. Hmm… perhaps.
