There is something intrinsically wonderful about holding a baby, don’t you think? Babies have a soft weight in your lap and a sweet smell to their hair. Even though I have a lovely daughter of my own, I do so enjoy holding a little baby. The way they look at you, depend on you to keep them safe for the instant they are with you, that deep trust they must put in you, just melts my heart. Here are two people who also enjoyed holding a baby.
First up is Aunt Lottie and Ruth. The photograph is an early snapshot, taken in what appears to be the living room or parlor of the home. The sun was coming in behind the photographer and the shadow of his head falls right on the skirt of Aunt Lottie. It makes for an unusual image.
This photo was in the same packet and was likely taken by the same family photographer. I don’t know if the baby is also Ruth as there are no notes. I have other photos from this packet (50 in all) that were similarly mounted on embossed card stock with beveled edges. Nearly all of the photographs are poorly exposed and at times difficult to make out the subjects.

Who Were They? 
Ah yes freshly bathed and powdered babies..not the tired fussy ones! Perhaps these are all practice shots of a budding photographer! I don’t know what kind of glue they used back then ..but it must have been some good stuff:)

I still think that the best thing about babies is when you can give them back to their mother. Liked the photos though; photographer’s shadows creep into my more often than I would like. Beware of mirrors to.

The nice mounts seem to make up for the deficiencies in the photography. I don’t have any children and would rather hold soft furry cats.

I agree with you, there is nothing like holding a little baby. When they belong to others, I feel more comfortable when they are a few months old though.

The shadow is almost creepy, in my opinion.
I remember spending time at the nursery when I wasn’t too busy at the delivery room, and I must say there is something special about holding a baby that’s only a few hours old in this world.

Interesting! The photo, being of the quality it is, and of the man holding the baby is so similar to one taken of my father holding me that I really had to take a very close up look. Of course I knew that it was not my father nor was I the baby. He held the babe the same way and had the same style hat on his head.
